Losasio® may lead to serious side effects, including:
- The potential for thyroid tumors, including cancer. It is essential to inform your healthcare provider if you experience a lump or swelling in your neck, hoarseness, difficulty swallowing, or shortness of breath, as these may indicate thyroid cancer. Research conducted on rodents has shown that Losasio® and similar medications can induce thyroid tumors, including thyroid cancer.
- However, it remains uncertain whether Losasio® can cause thyroid tumors or a specific type of thyroid cancer known as medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) in humans.
- Losasio® should not be used if you or any family member has a history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) or if you have a condition known as Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2).
- Additionally, do not use Losasio® if you have experienced a severe allergic reaction to semaglutide or any of its components.
- Prior to using Losasio®, it is advisable to inform your healthcare provider of any other medical conditions you may have.
- The safety and efficacy of Losasio® in individuals with a history of pancreatitis remain undetermined.
- Losasio® is contraindicated for individuals with type 1 diabetes.
- Pancreatitis: If you experience severe abdominal pain that persists, with or without vomiting, it is crucial to discontinue Losasio® and contact your healthcare provider immediately. The pain may radiate from the abdomen to the back.
- Vision changes: Should you notice any alterations in your vision while undergoing treatment with Losasio®, inform your healthcare provider promptly.
- Hypoglycemia: The likelihood of experiencing low blood sugar may increase if Losasio® is taken alongside other medications that can induce hypoglycemia, such as sulfonylureas or insulin. Symptoms of low blood sugar can include dizziness, blurred vision, anxiety, mood changes, sweating, slurred speech, hunger, confusion, drowsiness, shakiness, weakness, headaches, rapid heartbeat, and feelings of jitteriness.
- Kidney issues: Individuals with pre-existing kidney conditions may face exacerbated kidney problems due to dehydration caused by diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting. It is essential to maintain adequate fluid intake to mitigate the risk of dehydration.
- Severe allergic reactions: If you experience any signs of a serious allergic reaction, such as swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat; difficulty breathing or swallowing; severe rash or itching; fainting; dizziness; or a rapid heartbeat, discontinue Losasio® and seek immediate medical assistance.
- Gallbladder complications: Some individuals taking Losasio® have reported gallbladder issues. Notify your healthcare provider if you experience symptoms such as upper abdominal pain, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes), fever, or clay-colored stools.
